Some days we wake up and there is no power to cook, or there is no water, or the bathroom has lost its roof and wall and there is no where to do your business. Sometimes the mini bus is packed with 25 people and six chickens, sometimes all you want to do is be alone while people are yelling your name in the streets for no reason. These are the realities of living here, but when we enter into that classroom, all of these issues disappear and we remember just how fortunate we are to be able to work and live in this amazing community. How lucky we are that the teachers and students allow us to teach and learn with them. The first year was a lot of learning, a lot of growing and a lot of uncomfortable times. Here is to the next year of service, to improve ourselves, help our communities and continue to serve with purpose and dedication. At the end of our pre-service training we were asked to dedicate our service to someone or something. My dedication hangs in our house and says’ I dedicate my service to improving the self-efficacy of all those I encounter through love, respect and selfless service.’
I look at this poster each day and remind myself the importance of this dedication, I hope to continue to do this through the remainder of my service here in Ethiopia.
Peace and Love,
Jimi
